The origins of Teva shoes
The birthplace of Teva footwear was the Colorado River, which snakes its way through the Grand Canyon. It was here that a young river guide set out to develop a shoe that was ideally suited to life in the water. His design combined the best attributes of a sports shoe and a sandal. Whilst a regular sports shoe becomes waterlogged, heavy and uncomfortable when worn in the water, a flip flop slips of the foot and provides little in the way of security when wet. The answer was to use a rugged high-grip sole, a comfortable all-weather footbed, and an ankle strap to hold the shoe securely to the foot. The result was a runaway success. From selling 200 pairs of shoes to friends and family in the year after development, it soon became clear that there were many others of active people looking for footwear designed with water sports in mind.
Fast forward to the present day and the Teva shoe brand has grown to include a wide range of high performance footwear. The variety of activities where Teva sandals and shoes can be found has also greatly increased to now include everything from rafting, sailing, canyoneering and trail running.
